The French Bulldog is a small energetic breed. They have large, rounded, bat like ears and a square flat head, similar to that of a English Bulldog but smaller. Their skin is quite soft making them very appealing to pet. Very comical little dogs they are always great for a good laugh and long friendship. French Bulldogs weigh under 28 pounds and are 11 to 13 inches in height. They appear as active, smart, and muscular dogs with heavy and relatively big bones.
DIET/FEEDING
Most buyers always face difficulties to know what to feed their new French Bulldog puppy, as the food you choose will have long-term ramifications over your Frenchie's health. Puppy food is specially curated to support your playful and energetic pup, with bonus nutrients to aid in teeth and bone growth.
Young Frenchies have high caloric and nutrient needs. French Bulldogs aged anywhere from 8-12 weeks of age need a total of 1.5 cups of puppy food per day. This must be spread out into 3 meals equaling 1/2 cup each. Spreading out the meals minimizes the peaks of energy your French Bulldog will experience due to dramatic rises and decreases in blood sugar levels between meals. Spreading the meals out will maintain a healthy amount of energy and nutrients in your puppy’s belly.
After roughly 6 months of 3 meals per day, you may switch to twice daily feeding for convenience, but I will always encourage you to sustain feeding 3 times per day even into your French Bulldog’s old age. Feeding smaller meals 3 to 4 times daily is significantly better for your companion’s well-being. Feeding only twice daily can sometimes lead to gastric dilatation volvulus.
As puppies tend to grow in small bursts, it's important that you feed them frequently. Puppies need three high-quality, well-balanced, measured meals a day. These should be made from natural ingredients, and low in processed foods and sugars.
Help your puppy adjust to its new home by following the same routine as its previous owner and purchasing the same brand of dog food, slowly introducing your preferred pick. If you feed your puppy high-quality food at the same time every day, your pooch will grow up happy and healthy.
CARE/TRAINING
This breed is an average shedder and does not need much grooming. Brushing with a rubber brush will remove any dead or loose hair. Due to the flat muzzle, the French Bulldog tends to drool so the mouth should be cleaned regularly. Bathe only when necessary.
With regards to training, the French Bulldog can be somewhat willful so consistency is required. Even this being a sturdy little breed, they do not respond well to harsh training methods. This dog does best with a patient handler. With the correct handler, this breed can go far.
BEHAVIOR/PERSONALITY
The French Bulldog has a very even and pleasant temperament, which makes him a perfect candidate for a household companion. French Bulldogs are very playful, yet some males may be dog aggressive. This breed gets along well with most other animals, and does best with older children.
TEMPERAMENT
This hilarious little dog makes a wonderful playmate and is very affectionate. Alert and clingy, this breed does require lots of human attention to thrive. This is not a kennel breed and should always be kept in a family environment. Given proper socialization the French Bulldog can do well with other dogs, but should not be around small children, as they do not tolerate rough play.
